Skincare Before-and-After Photos: A Fair Comparison

Illuderma topical skincare serum bottle

Two photographs can look persuasive while leaving important details unanswered. When evaluating Illuderma or another serum, look beyond the apparent difference and ask how the images were made.

A fair comparison is useful for organizing your own observations. It still cannot establish a diagnosis, prove a product caused a change, or tell you what another person will experience.

Check the conditions

Notice the direction and brightness of the light, the distance from the camera, and the angle of the face. Shadows can change how texture and spots appear. Makeup, filters, and image processing can also make a comparison harder to interpret.

If the conditions are not described, treat the image as incomplete information. A polished presentation is not evidence that the lighting and editing were controlled.

Ask what else changed

A photograph may follow changes in sunscreen use, makeup, another skincare product, or professional care. Without a clear account, you cannot attribute the appearance to one serum. Even a sincere customer may not be able to separate those influences.

Check whether the image is an actual customer account, a demonstration, a stock photograph, or a product illustration. Do not assume that every face next to a product represents a documented result.

Keep personal records consistent

If you choose to keep your own photographs, use a repeatable location and camera position. Keep original files, avoid filters, and note dates and relevant routine changes. Describe what you see without turning the record into a clinical claim.

Avoid taking photographs repeatedly under different light and selecting only the most flattering pair. A consistent method is more useful than a dramatic-looking comparison.

Combine images with better questions

Read the current ingredient list, directions, and buying terms alongside any testimonial. Ask whether there is evidence about the complete formula and the specific outcome you care about. A guarantee or discount does not answer that evidence question.
